Thursday Evening
A
strong wind preceded the brief thunderstorm this afternoon, washing
out a scheduled group photo. Oh, well. tomorrow’s another day.
The big fun tonight was a trip to the university’s athletic center.
Almost everyone wanted to head to the pool and stay there, but the lifeguard
staff isn’t used to more than a handful of people in the big pool.
So we had “pool time” in shifts of 15 to 25. Some of the
chaperones quickly found the Jacuzzi and hopped in. About a dozen choristers
did laps in the pool while the others played Marco Polo or just frolicked.
In the women’s locker room, the girls were totally fascinated
by the “swimsuit spinner” that instantly dried their suits.
In the other part of the center, there were pick up games of basketball
and volleyball. There is a huge indoor track that runs above the main
floor and some of us gave that a try, too. One itty-bitty girl claimed
she ran a mile. “7.5 laps is a mile, actually,” she said.
“I ran 8 laps.”
The kids were dawg tired but headed for Worship in their jammies or
sweats for a brief, memorable service. On their backs they “cleared
the air” and made sounds of forest animals, wind in the trees
and babbling brooks before heading up the stairs to slumberland.
The night wasn’t over before the Tooth Fairy paid a visit to one
little girl. After biting on a Tootsie Roll, a baby tooth came out and
was placed under the pillow. Somehow, the Tooth Fairy found out and
exchanged the tiny milk tooth for a dollar.
